The Product Review // Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water

I picked this up for the first time in May/June time when the micellar water craze was at its height and after two bottles, which are enormous so last forever, I thought it was about time I did a review! If your looking for an inexpensive, at around £5 a bottle, gentle cleanse then this is your man. It does a darn good job at removing the bulk of makeup, a second soaked cotton pad will do the rest, but i feel like the only way to remove heavy eye makeup is to fully soak a cotton pad and gently wipe. Waterproof eye makeup is a little trickier, by that I mean you have to take off the bulk at night and then in the morning have another go at getting rid of the rest, which isn't the most convenient method.

I realise I've made it sound like a product not worth your time but it is great, it does what it says on the tin which is a scarcity in the beauty industry! I have decided to move onto bigger and better things, as you'll see in a future haul, just because I fancied a change, I…

What I Got For Christmas 2014

I love reading these posts every year, even just as inspiration for the Christmas money spending spree! This year I was very fortunate and am so happy and grateful for every single gift I was so kindly given! The usual disclaimer still must be said, I'm not bragging or showing off, these are all such amazing presents and I'm not making this post to shove them in your face. I also got a few gift vouchers, which I haven't photographed (I'll mention them in hauls where I've spent them!) and money which is mainly going towards my Gambia trip (I'll be talking about that very soon!). So now the intro is done, this is what I got:

The Big Gifts
I asked for these GHD IV straighteners when I had no idea what I wanted. I figured I love straightening my hair so it was about time I got a classic, decent pair which are an investment and they'll last me a long while! I've already used them and they are fab! This Mulberry Bayswater in black is one that is second hand, my…

To My Wonderful Readers...

I feel like it's been a while since I last sat down and had a little chatty post, so this is long overdue. I hope you all had a fab Christmas and got all you wished for. For me I had a great day, which was surprisingly productive as I went to work for a bit and also got a start on my "What I Got For Christmas" post. I feel like this year has been a good one, and in a way I think it seems to have been a year setting up for the next one (that makes no sense so I'll continue!). I did my GCSE's this year which has given me the determination to do even better next year in my AS levels, where I've continued to do 4 subjects I adore. I started this blog which has got me excited for all of the different posts I'll be doing throughout next year and it's definitely going to become a serious hobby. I also started working in the end half of the year which has given me the financial freedom and attitude to go and do what I want to do next year, and let me tell you…

Plagiarism in Blogs

This is a little bit more of a serious topic but one that really got me thinking so I thought I'd share my thoughts as I think it's a relevant issue to all bloggers and blog readers. Plagiarism is where someone takes another's ideas or work and passes them off as their own. In fairness, on the internet, with such a vast amount of content, it's highly probable that whatever you write someone has written it before, or something similar. I think that as a blogger, especially because we are all trying to create unique content about general topics and there are just so many of us, that work which is completely individual is nigh on impossible, but I'll keep trying.

I think that there are 3 main reasons why blogs may feature similar content or posts around similar times. The first is that bloggers tend to be huge blog fans; we seek our inspiration from one another and when we read a post we love, the cogs in our brains start turning and before you know it we've writt…

Winter Essentials

I have a few items that I've been turning to regularly and that I think are perfect for this time of year...

Lip balm is an essential for protecting from dry, flaky lips. I love thisone from Burt's Bees as it not only protects from chapped lips but also helps to cure them once they've dried out. This product is quite literally a life saver!
Hand cream is a necessity also. With wind and the cold air it is all too easy for your hands and nails to dry out, cracked cuticles are never a good look and make nail painting that bit more infuriating.
I love how when you come in from the cold your cheeks have that beautiful flushed glow to them. A natural looking blush can always add that something-something to your makeup. This one from MUA is just the right natural shade and at just £1 you really can't go wrong.

A coppery eyeshadow is perfect for adding that little bit of wintry colouring to your makeup without having to fuss about with a plum lip. This one from mac, in antiqued, is…

Product I'm Going To Use More This Week

This week I'm trying to use this blush from benefit. I'm not 100% sure of the exact name but it was part of the "I'm Glam Therefore I Am" gift box. It is not heavily pigmented at all which helps to make it the perfect easy blush that adds that pop of color, which you can't go wrong with. The slight shimmer, gold element just helps to add a little extra glow as again it isn't the strongest of pigments.

So an update on last week's product, well I did wear it. Only once though! I found it dried down to quite a dry texture and adding balm to smooth my cracked lips took away the colour. I think I'll try it again in a couple more weeks and see how I feel about the waxy texture then!
I also wanted to urge you all to do this with me, let me know what products you are going to use more either on twitter, use the hash tag "#UsingThisProductMore" or leave a comment below! What products are at the back of your draw that you need to use more?

My Current Skincare Routine

I'm not that skincare obsessed, I have a pretty basic routine but I am getting into it a little bit more at the moment. This is the routine I swear by, although at the moment my skin is really dry so if you know any amazingly nourishing moisturisers let me know!

Night Time My night time skincare routine is simple, very basic. All I do is cleanse with the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water which is really gentle on my skin, takes all of my makeup off and leaves it perfectly fresh for bed!
Morning I'm usually in a rush in the morning so I never cleanse with anything more that water. I usually use this Protecting Moisture Cream from Simple. The SPF 30 in it is perfect for my extremely freckly skin, it prevents sun damage to it which is fab and it's really cheap at around £4. For an eye cream I love using the Clinique All About Eyes, although it's a sample my mum got ages ago I think it's amazing as it provides a really smooth base for concealer, it sinks in quickly and isn&…

Beauty Haul

I mentioned in this life update that I had a few makeup bits that I was going to haul, and as the last package has been delivered here it is. These are all items I've picked up over the last month and a half, they are predominantly high end bits and bobs as I've decided that I'm going to start ticking items that have been on my lust list for a while as opposed to lots of cheap rubbish I'll never use!

Although the image show my Mac quad, I only actually bought 2 of the shades plus the duo palette (the quad and other shadow was a gift). I decided that after eyeing up Mac palettes for about a year it was about time I stopped wasting money on rubbish dupes and just invested in the real thing. As I knew it was unlikely I'll get a full 15 pan palette for a long, long time I decided to go for 2 shades I could wear alone or with one another. Therefore I picked up Antiqued, a beautiful red toned shimmery brown and Haux, a lilac toned taupe shade. I'm really happy with my…

Life Update #2

So here we are, another life update. I think these are going to be a regular thing as I did try to do monthly favourites but I think I prefer this kind of a setup...
BloggingSo I've been blogging for a month now and it's fair to say I'm loving it! The posts that I've been doing have been ones that I've enjoyed writing, and hopefully you've enjoyed reading but I would love to hear what kind of posts you would like me to do. I've got a few lined up but I'd love to hear suggestions so feel free to email me at thebloggeralice@gmail.com . It's also been amazing to hear what people think of the blog, especially all of my friends! Let me know what you think about it too!
Travel I'm a massive worrier so the fact that I've traveled up to London twice this month with friends is quite an achievement! I'm hoping to go up a little bit more, and maybe even venture to different places, as I do love the city. Hopefully next year I'll get the chance to …

Spontaneous Day in London

Last Sunday my friend Jade and I were really lucky to get tickets to watch the recording of Top of the Pops 2014 in London! We both got the train up to St. Pancras and from there another train to Elstreet, but when we got to the studios we were told that as they oversubscribe the seats they actually didn't have space for us. So we found ourselves in London, with a day to spare and no actual plans, I thought I'd share it with you guys in case you're planning a day up to London or ever do find yourselves there with a little time to spare!

We hopped back onto the train to St. Pancras and when we arrived we decided to do a little bit of Christmas shopping and have a look at the Christmas lights around London. The first thing that we did was go and get tube tickets, a necessity for the city as it means you can move around really quickly and with the little time we had this was a good idea! We decided to go for an all day travel pass as we weren't sure exactly what we were go…

Christmas Party Outfit Ideas

The other day all of my friends and I went to a formal dinner with school which we all got dressed up for. With it being the season for parties we all thought it would be a great idea to share what we wore with you, so that you can get a little bit of inspiration for whatever event your going to. Me and my friends Marianna, Emily and Vicky all got ready together and as we all have such different style, and they all looked fab,  I thought I'd show you what they wore.
I had such a wonderful night and a big thank you to all of my friends for letting me use their photos and outfits as different ideas!

What are you planning on wearing to the festivities this year?

Christmas Party Makeup

Makeup at this time of year can be pretty difficult, especially if it's for a special occasion. I find that my skin is really dry as it's so cold, so I have to be really careful not to wear too much and although I want to wear a bolder lip it seems like everywhere you turn people are wearing a plum or red lip! For the formal dinner I went for a fairly natural look, which looked great in photos, but a beautiful copper smoky eye. I tried to keep the focus on the eyes, lots of mascara, tamed brows, and a bold eye (which surprisingly didn't show up much in the photos). If your looking for inspiration here are the products I used...

My Christmas Jumper 2014

So I mentioned in this post that I'd already bought my Christmas jumper for this year and I thought I'd share it with you. It's from Primark and was really cheap at £9 in comparison to the ones I'd been lusting after in other shops. It's pretty simple which I really liked and the quality also appears to be pretty good! There are several in Primark at the moment which are cheap, if you want a more traditional fair isle kind of pattern try looking at the men's, I nearly bought one from there!

The Secret Bloggers

For a while now it's become clear just how prominent blogging has become with in society for decent reviews, advice and advertising. There are millions of people that click onto a wide variety of blogs every day which means it's inevitable you know at least a few readers within your friendship groups. It surprises me though that something which makes up such a large part of the internet now is talked about so little. I noticed this when I made a passing comment about a product I'd heard a bad review about on a blog. To my amazement the person I was talking to replied immediately telling me they too had read the post, in fact they themselves read multiple beauty blogs each day. Why this shocked me so much I have no idea, it's this idea though that we are all reading blogs yet we are all silently acknowledging the powers held by these blogs, why don't we talk more about the media storm they all create?

I also noticed how hesitant I was to tell people I had a blog when…

Christmas Jumpers 2014

It's at this time of year that every store seems to have released a wide variety of Christmas jumpers, and over the past couple of years it's become somewhat of a tradition to see whats on offer. Here are my picks for this year:
This one from New Look is pretty Christmassy! It's not too expensive which is want you want for something you may only get the chance to wear for a few days each year. It's also a great one if you want to inject some festive cheer into your outfit!

If you want something that is more wintery than Christmassy then this is the jumper for you. It's very traditional but would look fab on the big day!  If subtlety is what you're looking for then this one is your best bet. It's really simple, and even looks a little elegant with the glittery design.

Personally I've bought mine already from Primark, I'll be showing it in a future post, but I think they're a staple for this time of year, they're so easy to dress up or down! What…

Beauty On The Go

For the majority of people beauty on the go isn't really a thing, and up until recently I was the same. Now I've realised that I've actually got a few staples that I carry round with me daily so I thought I'd share what I always have with me...

Lip Balm is an essential for me. My lips are so dry and cracked and especially in the cold weather I just can't live without it. This Beeswax's lip balm from Burt's Bees is great, it works so well and leaves your lips moisturised for a good couple of hours.

With me I always have two lipsticks, a natural, pinky shade in the form of Mac's Peach Blossom and a bolder, red in the form of Ruby Woo. I think that having a bold lip means you can take a look from day to night in less than 2 seconds (well, less than a minute!) and it's always nice to have it there just in case, y'know!

When my makeup starts to melt away I always notice that concealer is the first to fade away, that's why I always carry Soap and Glo…

The Product Review // MUA Undress Me Too

Now I used to think this palette was the bee's knees and now, I like it but I never reach for it. Getting this out to review and swatch has kind of reminded me just why I loved it, granted it's no contest for my Urban Decay Naked 2 palette (for which it's meant to be a dupe) but then It never would be for the £4 price tag in comparison to the £37!

The matte shades are a waste of space, they are chalky and not good at all. As for the glitter/shimmer shades, well they're little gems. Buttery, pigmented and really blendable! Had MUA ditched the mattes and made a smaller palette with the shimmers they would have been onto a winner...

The shades look amazing alone and blended out or mixed together to form part of a smoky eye! I might, just maybe, go as far as to say I prefer a couple of MUA shades to the Urban Decay ones, a couple of the Naked's are lacking in pigment and a little gritty with the glitter whereas in here they are beautifully smooth and apply like a dream!
